Dear beloved DNA Collectibles’ fan and collectors, we are happy to introduce you Sergiu, founder of well known Diecast Arena group on Facebook. We are so glad he came to visit our web-shop (here) and has the opportunity to write independent reviews of our scale model cars. Obviously we really appreciate his reviews, not only because he likes our quality and general job on scale models manufacturing, but also because we could (and still can) improve from his comments and suggestions. Please give him a warm welcome and learn a bit more about his passion for scale model cars and how he handles his website and FaceBook group. Here is a short interview:

Sergiu, how did you fall into the passion of model cars and became a collector?

I always had the passion for cars and I started collecting when my parents gifted me the first model in 1:18 scale.

When was it?

December 1996

What was your first scale model?

The first one was a Bburago 1:18 Dodge Viper RT10, still present in my collection today.

Which one is your favorite model in your collection?

Is hard to say, maybe the Mercedes Benz 600 LWB Pullman from Autoart.

What are you managing, what is your community?

I have a personal site www.playcars.weebly.com and its respective page on Facebook, Playcars, where I started the #automodelsbiography concept, writing and taking photos close to the real of the models I have in my collection. I manage in the same time the Facebook group Diecast Arena open to collectors worldwide and an Instagram account @diecastarena

Why did you open your website Playcars?

While creating my website (you can find here), the first intention was to share my models and keep an inventory of my collection, but fortunately the things become more professional and the site is now the base for my review articles and detailed photos.

What are the points that you think are really important on model cars?

The accuracy, quality of manufacturing and the details.

Is the packaging important for you?

Yes, the package is making the difference, first for the model protection and for the identity of the brand. I like very much the individually personalized boxes, very popular in the past with the brands making american cars.

How do you proceed to write a review of a car and how long does it take?

A review starts always with an interesting subject. If I see a considerable effort put in making a scale model, then I’ll write and share my impressions. To write an article I need an hour and a half, but I spend considerably more time taking photos and editing them.

We noticed that you take very nice pictures. How did you develop those skills or are you a professional photographer?

I’m not a professional photographer, I’m continuing learning and this is proof that making things you like, you will have great results.

How difficult is it to manage your Facebook Page Diecast Arena?

Is not difficult at all, I created a set of rules for the members and I follow them very closely.

How much time do you put into this group and globally to all Diecast activities?

This depends about how much time I have left after a working day, but at least two hours on a busy day. I need to follow my group’s activities very often and if I’m busy with my other duties I keep the photo shooting and writing for the relax moments

How did you know about DNA Collectibles?

From the Facebook posts early 2018.

What do you like about DNA Collectibles models?

I liked and still appreciate the overall quality and finishing level and for sure the old packaging and base will be missed.

Which one is your favorite DNA Collectibles model so far?

I like your first supercar, the Audi R8 LMX, because of the carbon pattern and the visible engine. An excellent model by the way.

If you had one (or more) advice how could DNA Collectibles improve in the future?

I would like to see few more brands in your portfolio and more sport cars, no one made before.

Safer & Comfier: Saab 9-5 Sportcombi 2005

Saab 9-5 Sportcombi 2005 was known for its safety and comfort features. It is one of the first cars in production that rendered asymmetrical turbocharging and ventilated seats with a 3.0L V6 engine. It also has the 9-5 basic Saab’s Active Head Restraints (SAHR); the positioning for these was raised higher to prevent injury in case of a rear collision.

The company was able to secure awards in the UK, Australia, and Denmark for their high-tech safety measures that were equipped in this car. Furthermore, the car also had comprehensive side-panel protection against a crash. The car came with several additional features and other add-ons.

The manufacturers provided cassette decks, CD changers, and satellite navigation built-in on the dashboards. However, the phone kits, which were installed from the factory, were made optional for the buyers. And another catchy feature of this car, that attracted the most attention, was its leather upholstery.

It connected the car to its predecessors while giving out a futuristic vibe to the user. The headlights consisted of Halogen beams for low light and Xenon or Halogen for main. Saab 9-5 Sportcombi 2005 also had fog lights on the front end of the car. With adequate service intervals, this car was an affordable and effective solution for all family needs.

9-5 Sportcombi 2005 has a turbocharged variant called Aero. It has got low-height sport chassis, memory seats for the driver, leather seats, rear park assistance, instrument panel with a metallic finish, and so much more. The list for this striking version is long.

The Aero version has 17-inch alloy wheels that give out a sporty look and added 9 speakers with Harman-Kardon audio systems top this look. The convenient back seats have a collapsible feature to give access to the large trunk storage and the conventional side mirrors have an auto-dimming feature. Few other features include an integrated body kit, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and exhaust tailpipe with bright-finish.

In Aero Saab 9-5 Sportcombi 2005, the design and structure of the grille, bumper, and headlights were tweaked slightly to make the car look even trendier. With strong engine configuration, this version rendered better performance than any of its forerunners. This also has the most powerful engines in any of Saab’s 9-5 series with a top speed of 245 km/h; it has a 240-250 horsepower engine.

More about the “Aero” version of Saab 9-5 Sportcombi 2005

After its first launch in 2000, the 9-5 Aero was also called “HOT Aero” in its early years; crediting to its sportiest look and outdoing performance. With a 4-cylinder inline engine, Aero Saab 9-5 Sportcombi 2005 had an extensive torque and beat several luxury executive cars back then.

After 2005, the vehicle sported the standard engine with sturdy trims and came with more new upgrades like electronic stability control and anti-locking braking systems. This version was continued until the brand discontinued its production. However, it saw an upgrade in the 2007 production sequence, after the Aero badge was added on the trunk lids as well.

Also, the “Anniversary” wheels, sport-tuned chassis, and 2-tone leather interior were special about the later models. While rest other features and designing were kept the same as before. Interested buyers just have to use this information to identify whether Sportcombi 9-5 Aero is before 2007 or not.

Final Verdict

Overall, Saab 9-5 Sportcombi 2005 is a functional and serviceable wagon-style vehicle that can be used as a family car. During its early stages, Sportcombi was used by multiple police departments for patrolling. A few of these areas included Sweden, United Kingdom, Aspen, etc. Mostly they used the Aero version of this series, however, they were replaced by more latest and performing models from Volvo and Ford.

9-5 Sportcombi still is an affordable and more reliable substitute for the expensive and high-maintenance sedans or wagons. With a high value for investment, Saab designed this car to perform. Its capacious space, ample storage, and fuel economy make this car perfect for the long run. The easy control on the steering and multiple safety features of the car supplement its effectiveness for family use. This car showcases the amazing and inspiring design of the 2000s and is worth a shot!

Call them ‘Vintage’ or ‘Antique, Classic cars can never stay out of trend. These timeless models have a special spot for the car-lover; they are admired by everyone from all over the world. People relate with such cars and fall for their classy make and style.

Today, we will talk about one such vintage car that won over everyone’s hearts- Volvo 164 E 1972 model. After a lot of research and hard work, we have compiled all the necessary information that a buyer or enthusiast needs.

Back in 1968, Volvo decided it would step into the world of luxury cars, like ones made by brands like Mercedes and Jaguar. That’s when Volvo came up with 164, a fresh saloon-style model which was inspired by its 140 series. With a longer body and stronger engine, 1972 Volvo 164 E had a unique sedan making and a striking grille.

Its predecessor variant, the 1968 version, was launched at Paris Motor Show. Getting back to our 1972 Volvo, it had a 6 cylinder engine, 4 doors, power steering, air conditioning, and leather upholstery. Let’s know more about the Volvo 164 E 1972’s specs:

Making of Volvo 164 E 1972

Sporting a 188 km per hour top speed, the Volvo 164 E 1972 has a total weight of 1335 kg or 2943 lbs. It also has a normally aspirated engine with 6 cylinders that can create 177 PS power at 5800 rpm. With an average maximum torque, this classic car has a manual gearbox with 4-speed options.

It has Coil Springs to provide optimal ride comfort, easy steering, and road holding to the driver and passengers. To support the coil springs the car layout contains durable front suspension and anti-roll bar. For the braking systems, the 164 E has vented discs on both, front and rear, ends. De Dion axle and radius arms support the rear suspension of the vehicle.

Progression

  • Forerunner: Volvo Amazon & Volvo PV831 Disponent
  • Descendant: Volvo 264

Chassis & Body

  • Class: Executive car or Mid-size Luxury
  • Style: Sedan; with 4 doors
  • Layout: FR layout

Other Specifications

  • Engine CC: 2978 CC
  • Engine Capacity: 3 liters
  • Fuel Tank Capacity: 58.2 liters
  • Valve Gear: Overhead Valve (OHV)
  • Total Valves: 12; 2 per cylinder
  • Torque: 241 Nm at 2500 rpm

While 164’s first variants consisted of basics, Volvo introduced new upgrades and additions in its ‘72 version. Volvo sold over 20,000 cars of their 164 E 1972 model. Their Chassis number went from 32400 to 52789.

Upgrades in Volvo 164 E

Volvo 164 E 1972 cars had several, major to minor, amendments to their initial designs. They were introduced with a new fuel injection system. This novel add-on had B30F for low compression and B30E for high compression. These used Bosch D-Jetronic injection- fuel injection technology; which was one of Bosch’s initial electronic fuel injection systems. However, these volume production systems were added as per the buyer’s requests.

The creators also made some changes in the dashboard; they added a few switches, a clock, and a center console. This redesigned version made ’72 stand out from its older versions. They even revised the door handles by inserting pull style flush-mounted handles in the 1972 version. Volvo 164 E 1972 got new 5.5 inch wide wheels with stylish chrome trimmings.

The power steering feature of this model made it even more special for the interested buyers back then. In this variant, makers changed the position of automatic shift selector. It was mounted on the floor rather than the steering column of the car. Its long list of added features and utmost comfort made 1972 Volvo 164 popular in the global market.

Unlike its previous models, Volvo 164 E 1972 came with installed remote shifter transmission tunnel. The inspiration for adding this was taken from Volvo’s 140 car series. The hood was elongated for about 6 cm and the wheelbase was widened 10cm; to make equipping 6-cylinder engine easier.

The best part about the Volvo 164 ’72- Cognac Interior! Apart from its shiny trimmed wheels and catchy Cognac upholstery, the car was an exemplar of style with the latest machinery. This was made possible from its Jetronic, engine, and automatic gearbox; the car was perfect as a family or a business car.

Volvo 164 E 1972 also starred in several television shows and movies after its launch; it was quite famous for its comfort and functionality.

A large majority of people feel like they are paying way too much in indirect taxes over everything they buy or consume.

However, often, that is not the case. Ideally, you should feel free to buy our latest range of 1/18 scale diecast cars for your amazing diecast car collection. It is such a shame that misconceptions and confusion around taxes may discourage you from buying something as passionate and enjoyable as miniature car models. Read on to clear your doubts about the taxation system in the EU, and how it is highly unlikely that you would blow a hole in your pocket, just by purchasing replica cars from DNA Collectibles’ webstore.

As an EU resident, do I pay custom taxes when I buy miniature cars online?

The entire manufacturing of our 1/18 scale model cars takes place in China. Once the production process of our miniature cars is duly completed according to our specifications and instructions, the consignment gets shipped to our warehouse in Slovakia. It is from here, that the package containing your order of 1/18 scale diecast cars are dispatched and then delivered to your address, anywhere across the European Union. Concerning taxation laws, this sale of 1/18 scale model cars, is counted as a sale that is being done within the territory of EU. Which is why you are not liable to pay any customs taxes whatsoever on this package, or any other such package, where goods are being delivered to you from within the EU.

As an EU resident do I pay excise duties when I purchase brand new replica cars online?

The only case where you would have to duly pay excise duty is if you happen to purchase or online order tobacco or alcoholic beverages, such as beer, wine, and others. Apart from tobacco and alcohol, all products, including miniature cars, are exempted from excise duty, given that the goods are being ordered from within the EU, which is very much the case here.

As an EU resident, do I pay VAT on 1/18 scale diecast cars online?

VAT does apply to consumers that are buying goods online from European sellers, which is the case if you are purchasing miniature car models from us.

VAT is determined as a proportion of the overall price. So for instance, the seller would apply a certain percentage of the cost of 1/18 scale diecast cars as VAT. The percentage is different for different member countries of the EU. The standard VAT tax in Slovakia is 20% which is why you will be charged this amount while checking-out at DNA Collectibles shop.

The bottom line remains that you are not required to pay any additional taxes on buying your favorite miniature car models, other than the due VAT that is levied on all consumer items in the EU.

As a U.S. resident, do I have to pay any additional taxes while purchasing 1/18 scale model cars online?

No. The U.S. follows very open trade policies, which is the reason why there are no additional duties or taxes levied on U.S residents if you want to order a beautiful scale model car from Slovakia. Being a member country of the EU, products from Slovakia, including 1/18 scale model cars, are available in competitive prices to domestic products within the U.S.

It makes sense to pick the best product, if you don’t have to worry about the prices so much, or whether the product is available in your home country or not. The Internet has truly solved the problem of accessibility, and just by ordering online, you can get the latest edition of 1/18 scale diecast cars from halfway across the world to right at your doorstep.

Do I have to pay additional taxes to order miniature car models in Switzerland from the EU?

Similar to the U.S.A., Switzerland also has quite liberal trade policies. As a result, there is very less tax burden placed on you for ordering goods such as miniature cars, online. The amount you pay as the shipping fee for ordering the brand new 1/18 scale model cars, duly include the customs clearance and taxes that apply. However, outside of this shipping fee, there are no additional taxes to be paid on your behalf, for the package of the latest diecast car collection to reach you.

What are the tax rules for other countries and locations, outside the EU, the U.S.A. and Switzerland?

If you are trying to order the brand new set of replica cars from a country outside the EU, that is not the U.S. or Switzerland, we recommend that you contact your local custom and excise office for further details.

We hope that you will find the above information useful and enlightening. Our intent towards clearing your doubts is to provide you with clarity and conviction that you are not being ripped off by unnecessary taxes, every time you buy a new set of miniature car models. Breathe easy. Buying something as fun and enjoyable as the replica cars won’t cost you much.

We are all living through uncertain times. Which is why it is understandable why you would think twice before ordering the latest miniature car models for your diecast car collection.

You would probably be pretty relieved if you were to find out that you can order your favourite replica cars without worrying about COVID-19 reaching your doorstep. It would definitely put your mind at ease to know that by doing something as trivial as buying miniature cars to enhance your collection could bring a smile on your face, while keeping you and your family safe.

Should you be ordering diecast model cars right now?

There is an apprehension among people to shop and order packages from delivery services, fearing that packages might contain the infection. Considering the opinion of Dr Amesh A. Adalja, who is Senior Scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, there is no evidence discovered up until now that points towards any proven spread of the virus through shipped packages. In his opinion, the air temperature enveloping the package as they are shipped is not deemed conducive for the sustainability of the virus and further spread of the infection.

Dr Adalja believes that in general transit conditions are also not conducive for the virus to remain transmissible, considering the number of different factors that directly impact the viability of the virus such as exposure to the Ultraviolet rays, unstable temperature, fluctuations in humidity, among many others. Thus, even if you decide to ship your package of 1/18 diecast cars overnight, according to him, you have nothing to worry about. As the factory is located in China and the container spends several weeks in transit through sea and land, there is no chance the virus could have survived.

Do medical experts believe it is safe for you to buy your favourite miniature cars?

According to medical experts, you can completely feel at ease about shopping online and buying new 1/18 diecast cars and adding them to your diecast car collection. Experts believe that the risk of rapid virus transmission through touching and opening of boxes or packages is exceedingly minimal.

In the opinion of Dr David Cennimo, who is an infectious disease specialist currently teaching at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in Newark, the possibility of COVID-19 infection spreading through packages containing products such as miniature car models, is highly improbable and far-fetched.

Researchers are still in the process of learning about the Coronavirus and its modes of transmissions. However, there is a consensus that viruses such as this cannot survive for long on surfaces of objects such as resin model cars. This opinion is echoed by the Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore. According to them, the infection primarily spreads through inhaling the same ambient air or inhaling droplets that are transmitted by sneeze and cough of the person carrying the virus.

Another medical expert who shares the same opinion is Dr Jack Caravanos, who is a clinical professor at the environmental public health sciences at the NYU School of Global Public Health. He also holds the understanding that shipped packages carrying your favourite replica cars, poses quite a low risk, or none, of infection given the time taken by the package to reach you and the relative unconducive environment of the transit.

What does public health authorities say?

Leading public health authorities such as the CDC (Centre for Disease Control and Prevention)are reverberating the same opinion that there is no proven link has been established that can signify the spread of the virus through inanimate objects. According to the CDC, Coronaviruses demonstrate poor sustainability on the surfaces of objects. This is the reason why the likelihood of spread from products such as your preferred miniature car models, are extremely low. It is because products such as the diecast model cars are often shipped over a period of days or weeks, creating unsustainable ambient conditions for the virus.

As per the CDC, presently, there is no proof to suggest that ordering packages such as the 1/18 diecast models, can aid the transmission of 2019-nCoV. The CDC has yet to encounter a 2019-nCoV case in the U.S. that is associated with imported goods.

How can you disinfect your package of replica cars?

Despite the above assurances, if you are still feeling apprehensive about shopping for miniature cars, and adding them to your exclusive diecast car collection, then just disinfect the inanimate surfaces on the packaging, but not directly on the scale model car. It is pretty simple to do. Another very useful protection is to cover your beloved DNA Collectibles scale model cars with its relative acrylic showcase. You can find the showcase fitting models on their acrylic base here and the showcase fitting the black plastic showcase here. In this case, you would only have to disinfect the cover without altering and facing the risk to break parts of your scale model.

According to the WHO, disinfection could be performed by thoroughly cleaning the surfaces of objects that we touch, with water and detergent and using ordinary disinfectants that are used in hospitals, like the sodium hypochlorite. You can easily clean your newly arrived miniature model cars in just 5 seconds, completely disinfecting their inanimate surface on the packaging.

Please do not forget the main precautions

Regardless of whether you are receiving your diecast model cars through local delivery or an overseas shipment, or you are currently working at a store or warehouse that is entrusted with the task of receiving the shipment from abroad, Dr David Cennimo recommends you to follow the same guidelines and take the precautions that experts around the globe are suggesting we should be taking.

These precautions include frequent hand washing all throughout the day, but particularly prior to eating. We must all try and keep our hands away from the nose, mouth and eyes and maintain proper social distancing and avoid contact with persons who have been or are currently exposed to the virus.

By following those simple rules you can be reassured that there is no risk to get Coronavirus (COVID-19) from a package!

Is it possible to buy resin or diecast model cars as an investment? The short answer, is, yes, sometimes, if you purchase cars from a reputable seller, such as DNA Collectibles.

The scale model cars from DNA Collectibles are always worth it because they are made to a really high standard and are very detailed for a reasonable price. The care and passion that goes into every car are reflected in the end product, a vehicle that is sure to increase in value as time goes by.

If you love cars but aren’t a billionaire, collecting scale models is an excellent way to have your dream fleet without having to spend thousands of euros. Model cars take less space than a real vehicle and need much less in the form of maintenance (you won’t need to worry about taking them to the garage for an annual service!) Although you can check our blog on “How to take care of your scale models” to make sure you do it the right way.

The value can only grow with time and scarcity, especially if it is a limited edition or at least a numbered edition.

You always can find your preferred type of cars, such as vintage, movie cars, trucks, your favorite brand, childhood car, the list is endless.

Collecting cars can also be a friendly hobby. There are many online forums and communities where you can share tips with other like-minded people.

If you are planning to start collecting replica model cars as an investment, let’s look in more detail at the five factors which can affect the resale value:

1. Size

The size of a replica model car is a significant factor in terms of value. Although bigger models tend to be worth more money than smaller ones, they need more space to display, which may put off some collectors.

2. Manufacturer

Some manufacturers of replica model cars are more collectable than others, particularly vintage car makers from the early years of the twentieth century. This is usually because more recent manufacturers are associated with producing replicas of substantially lower quality.

However, there are exceptions to every rule, and DNA Collectibles, although makers of modern replica models are extremely appealing to collectors as the quality and attention to detail is second to none, making all their cars worthwhile investment pieces.

3. Availability

If a replica model car was only made in a limited number, its comparative scarcity would make it hold a higher value. The collectors market follows the laws of supply and demand. The rarer the car, the more it is worth. DNA Collectibles makes rare cars from resin on limited runs, often as few as 500 or less.

4. Fashions

The replica car market is subject to changing trends, causing the value of collectable cars to fluctuate. If a film is released, or a certain driver suddenly dies or wins a championship, cars associated with them often rise in popularity which in turn causes prices to inflate.

5. Condition

It will come as no surprise to learn that keeping your replica car in as near mint condition as possible is crucial if you want it to retain or increase its value. Serious collectors are only interested in vehicles, which have practically no visible wear or tear. These replica model cars will always command a higher resale value compared to an identical vehicle with scuffs and scratches. So, when your lovely DNA Collectibles car arrives, treat it like a newborn baby!

If you want to explore the replica car marketplace, it’s worth getting to grips with the terminology. The four primary descriptors of a replica model car are:

Mint condition: No visible signs of damage or faults and the paintwork is pristine.

Mint in Box (MIB): The replica car is in mint condition and in its original box, completely intact with no missing or damaged parts.

Mint on Mint Card (MOMC): This describes a diecast or resin replica scale model car and box that is in perfect condition and in the original packaging.

Other: This indicates that the model has suffered some type of damage, for example, flaky paint, broken parts or merely general wear and tear.

How to store and protect replica model cars

Whether you are buying diecast model cars for investment, have inherited a collection or worked hard to compile one, it is essential to know how to protect and store them properly to preserve their value.

As we have already outlined above, the value of a diecast car is heavily dependent on its condition. If possible, always keep any original documents, containers or packaging as this can help to establish the item’s its origin and provenance, increasing its worth.

Here are a few final tips for storing your replica model cars in the best possible condition:

Keep your model cars out of direct sunlight to avoid fading and sun damage to the box or the paintwork.
Display your cars in a place that has a regular temperature and even humidity levels to prevent damage or warping. Above a radiator, for example, would not be a suitable place.

Use a good quality display cabinet if at all possible. Locked doors are an advantage to prevent visitors from handling them without your permission and protecting your cars from dust and cats, which have been known to knock expensive cars off open display shelves.

Don’t forget to buy adequate insurance to cover rare models or limited editions.

Although collecting diecast model cars is a popular and rewarding hobby, it’s worth remembering that they are collectables, and it is crucial to enjoying ownership of your collection. Diecast model cars are only of ‘value’ to a collector or someone who wants them.

Putting together a collection of diecast cars should not be about money, it should be about the fun you have doing it. Forget about the ‘price’ you could get for it and look at the collection’s value to you.

If you do want to find the exact value of a diecast model car, do not place too much emphasis on the prices you see on various internet auction sites. These ‘asking prices’ are NOT actual realised prices, and the amount being sought can vary massively from current market values.

It can also be tempting to value your car based on the price of a similar diecast model. However, cars can have dramatically different values depending on the year they were produced – even if they have the same driver or other similar features.

The scale size 1:18 is one of the biggest size of scale model cars and is DNA Collectibles most popular scale. How big is 1 18?

Model cars in this scale are between 10 (250 mm) and 12 (300 mm) inches in length, and by definition, it is said that it is 18 times smaller than a car. Let’s look at why so many collectors love the 1:18 scale.

Extra detail

Virtually all diecast 1:18 scale models produced in recent years have opening doors, bonnet, and boots along with operational steering wheels which turn the front wheels. Tires are frequently fitted on functional ‘springy’ suspension systems. The bonnet or hood usually lifts to reveal a highly accurate and detailed engine bay (whether it is a separate cast piece or just a section of the cast and painted body located between the fenders).

Higher-end models are fitted with genuine leather interiors, accurate engine detail, fully operational sunroofs, windscreen wipers, adjustable seats, movable gear levers and many other realistic accessories. The majority of models are approximately 11 inches (280 mm) long by 5 inches (130 mm) wide by 4 inches (100 mm) tall, depending on the type of vehicle that is being represented. This level of detail is common to 1:18 scales and larger. Typically, and according to local legislation, businesses that manufacture scale model cars will comply with licensing arrangements with actual car manufacturers to make replicas of their cars, both in current production or of discontinued models. It’s clear that the 1:18 scale is perfect for visualising all the details beloved by collectors (compared to the smaller 1/43).

Possibility to stock lots of pieces/items

1:18 scale diecast cars seem to be the most common size of collectables for some reason. Why is that?

Many collectors grew up with 1/64 scale model cars, or even smaller, thanks to Hot Wheels, Matchbox, and Micro Machines, the company that proudly boasted that their cars could fit on a single dime. It might seem strange, therefore, that so many are turning to larger models.

The theory is simple: It’s just a good size for collector’s items!

When you want detail, it’s tough to fit every single nut and bolt of an Audi into a model that’s only a couple inches long. On the other hand, the slightly rarer, larger-scale model cars are a little trickier to manage. You put it on your desk, and it takes up space you usually put your coffee in. You put it on a shelf, and the front wheels lean off the ledge precariously. Cars in the 1:18 scale diecast cars offer the perfect compromise – they allow a wealth of detail, without sacrificing the convenience of a small model car that you can put anywhere.

Not to mention that so many 1 18 scale model cars actually feature moving parts. Doors that spring open, adjustable windshield wipers even. Imagine trying to squeeze that onto a 1/64 scale model Volkswagen.

The 1:18 scale is simply a convenient size. It’s easy to sculpt and model for when you’re working at a scale model company, and it’s not too small or too big for the collector. It’s just the perfect size for a collectable scale model diecast car.

For one of the best collections of collectable diecast models cars, head to DNA Collectibles. They feature a range of hard to find resin  1:18 models of a variety of vehicles, such as Audi, Volvo and Saab among others.

Collectors who demand plenty of authentic details like working bonnets, doors and boots should choose models built on the 1/18 scale. These cars will have more delicate features such as working lights, the wiring of electric engines, rubber hoses and suspension as well as a realistic interior.

The size of a replica is an enormously important factor when it comes to determining value. Although larger models tend to be more valuable than smaller ones, they require more space to display and store, which may not appeal to some collectors.

The details on the models of DNA Collectibles are amazing. The quality/price ratio is exciting, and they are easily transportable in removals, for example. For many collectors, the 1:18 scale is very satisfying as it also allows them to have a homogeneity between the different cars that they collect. As they are all built to the same size, they can get close to the garage of their dreams.

Appearance and size are one of the main factors which influence a replica model car’s value. Serious collectors are often only interested in ‘mint condition’ vehicles, which have no visible wear or defects. These vehicles will have higher resale value when compared to an identical model with minor marks or blemishes.

Having a Diecast Car Collection is a passion for many people.

They spend their spare time taking proper care of these scale models, and if they have some time left- they spend it on expanding their collection further. If you too fall in this category of collectors, then you must know maintaining these miniature cars is ten times more difficult than a real car.

Regardless of so many issues, we like showing off our admirable collection to our guests and other collectors. But, how can you not worry about spoiling your precious scale model cars by getting them out of their packaging?! Relax. We have got all answers to these queries. Whether you are an experienced collector or a rookie, these bits of advice can come in handy at all times. So without further ado, let’s start with the proper cleaning process of our diecast model cars:

How to clean miniature car models?

Three things to strictly avoid when you are having classic miniature models or replicas are:

  • Dirt & Dust
  • Heat
  • Sunlight

If you have placed your diecast car collection in ventilated display cases, then you must clean the cars once in a while. This is done to avoid larger dust deposition in the pores and compact corners. Never wash your car models, as it can affect the intricate upholstery of the model. As a reliable alternative, you must go for paintbrushes or a compressed air canister.

Follow these tips for proper cleaning of your miniature cars

  • For the padded seats and door panels, you can use a damp cloth.
  • Prefer using a microfiber cloth throughout the cleaning process.
  • Use mild detailing wax to add a little shine on the body; it can also uplift fading color.
  • Make sure that you keep your actions gentle to avoid tampering the badges or graphics.
  • Try including anti-tarnish bags in the cleaning routine.

You can also make a ‘Cleaning or Maintenance kit’ for your scale model cars. This will help you keep your products together in an organized manner. This kit should always have basics like wax, applicators, polish, cleaning solutions, cleaning cloth, etc. Car Wax is one of the most important cleaning products; it helps to elongate the model car life. However, you must apply wax on the car as soon as you remove it from its packaging.

For cleaning the crevices on the insides of the diecast model cars, you can also use a Q-tip. Also, conclude the cleaning process by applying polish on the car body; take a small amount of polish for this. Not only will this give your mini car a new and eternal look but will also keep the model safe from dirt/ dust deposition.

Another worth noting point is that maintaining your diecast model cars can be made budget-friendly. If you don’t have proper cleaning tools or products with you, then you can also use a soft cloth with lukewarm soapy water.

Remember! While buying cleaning products, make sure that you get no-alcohol and soft solvents. Hard base products can lead to color loss and paint dissolving.

Now, your miniature car models are squeaky clean and shining to get displayed in a classy case. There is a proper procedure for displaying cars too!

Displaying Replica Cars

Just like keeping proper care of the model cars is necessary, showcasing it in a befitting case is also important. Unluckily, there are many collectors, mostly beginners, who are unable to provide this luxury to their cars. Storage is a crucial aspect of getting a longer life of your miniature cars. These cars cannot survive harsh or normal room temperatures. Whether in its retail cover or not, you must double-check of keeping your car collection in a dry environment. Collectors should also dust these cars at regular intervals to avoid tarnishing and dullness.

Wondering which display case to choose? Never compromise on space, follow this saying and you will have the answer. Then you must keep the preference of your replica cars in mind. The cases should be capacious enough to store the cars without causing any damage. You can get glass cases, curio cabinets, display tables, vanities, or other furniture for the models.

Check-in with the seller or manufacturer whether the case you are buying is air-tight or not. Following these pointers will help you save your miniature model cars from sun exposure, mildew, dirt/ dust, heat, and more.

Do not forget that you can find the perfect fitting display case to match either with DNA Collectibles acrylic platform here or its new style packaging with the black plastic base in our webshop here

Let’s move on towards another controversial topic in the Diecast Car Collection world:

Should I remove the car packaging or not?

Once you get your hands on your favorite, vintage, or featured scale model cars, the next conflicting decision is: To remove or not to remove (the model from its base or from the packaging)?

The answer to this would be: it depends on your prospects of why you got the miniature car models. If you have purchased the model for reselling, now or in the future, then make sure the retail cover of the replica stays intact. A damaged packaging can affect the overall pricing of the classic car model.

However, if you get the diecast model cars for gifting or personal use, then you can get rid of the packaging. Some collectors like to keep the packaging undamaged and still get to touch the beauty inside. For such aspirants, they always have an option open of buying two of the same replica cars

Overall, being an owner of a diecast car collection with several classics is a proud moment for all collectors. It is like an educational activity that people from all age groups can enjoy. And with proper attention, care, and upkeep, these miniature car models can live for decades.

Saab Automobile AB sadly declared bankruptcy in 2011 and could only produce 11 302 of its flagship Saab 9-5 NG Sedan. The Saab 9-5 is an executive car produced by Saab AB from 1997 till the very last car which came out of the factory in the spring of 2011. Speaking of the factory, you certainly know that it is still running but under the name of NEVS, and still in Trollhättan, Sweden. NEVS stands for National Electric Vehicle Sweden and is owned by a Chinese Group. They are planing to develop and sell electrical vehicles for the Chinese market only for now, but later throughout the entire world. Their assembly plant is located in Fuzhou, China and their model is based on the Saab 9-3 platform.

But let’s learn a little bit about this amazing Saab 9-5 NG car and specifications:

Proud successor of the Saab 9000, also reproduced at scale 1 18 and available in our store here, the Saab 9-5 Sedan was meant to launch a new and modern era for the Saab brand. It should have worn the hero cape of the company and be its savior. The exterior body lines are completely new and adapt modern and more rounded aerodynamic shapes. Its interior has also been totally redefined and leather was a standard equipment. At the time of its launch it was featuring a 2.8-liter turbocharged V6 engine developing 300 HP (295 kW) as a standard power train in Aero trims. Obviously it was planed to come in Linear, Vector or Aero trims, with a choice of less powered engines, manual or automatic six speed gearboxes. Customers who would have chosen to buy the Aero version would have benefited of a more sportier aerodynamic package with large silver surrounding on the fog lights and other bits, different wheels and a completely new adaptive suspension kit. If you were a technology geek you would be pleased with a nice Head-up Display and even modern safety features like the Traction and Stability Control and Lane Departure Warning. Even if the Saab 9-5 NG was completely new in bodywork, you can easily spot that this is a Saab, when you came across it on the streets, due to its recognizable three-hole nose. This shows you how the designers kept the strong Saab legacy alive.

DNA Collectibles could not resist to replicate it in high quality resin at 1/18 scale.

If like us you are nostalgic of Saab cars, please have a look at Doug DeMuro’s nice video on Youtube here:

Subaru came in the early 90’s with an aircraft inspired sporty looking car: Subaru Alcyone SVX. This futuristic car has a window construction, ‘window inside a window’, style directly based on an aviation canopy. If you were lucky enough to come across this vehicle on the streets you could identify it without any doubt. Surprisingly no other scale model manufacturer reproduce this model at a larger scale than 1/43 and DNA Collectibles could not resist to replicate it in high quality resin at 1/18 scale. But let’s learn a little bit about this amazing car and history:

The Subaru SVX is a 2-doors, front engine, AWD car which was produced from 1991 to 1996 at Yajima Plant, Ota, Gunma, in Japan. In 1992 the U.S. Federal safety regulations for motor vehicles requited an automatic passenger restraint system. It could be either automatic seat belts or driver’s side airbag. In fact, as Subaru was dedicated to safety and performance they decided to have both of them. Another nice specification due to the split windows is the fact that they needed two directional defroster vents on the doors. In terms of safety the hood has been designed to bend when crashing in the front. Also all Subaru engines are low profile boxer design. This important feature allowed the motor to drop under the car in case of front end impacts.

At the time when Subaru Corporation launched and advertised the Subaru SVX, they showed the car everywhere in magazines and on TV spots in Pearl White and Black. The Subaru Alcyone SVX was only advertized as ‘Alcyone’ for the Japanese market. Everywhere else in the world, this car was know at Subaru SVX only. This is the version DNA Collectibles is selling here.

We found a nice advertisement video on Youtube, with the 90’s quality though. Please have a look here:
