DNA Collectibles is proud to introduce the Volvo 164 E for the first time at the 1 18 scale.

This luxury 4-doors executive car was first unveiled to the world in 1968 at the Paris Motor Show. During its production period from 1969 to 1974, more than forty six thousand Volvo 164 cars left the group's factories and was Volvo's answer to the Mercedes-Benz 250 and Jaguar XJ6 luxurious competitors.

Volvo 164 E, another emblematic scale model car requested by our community

Get used to it! DNA Collectibles listens to your wishes to turn them into reality...

With the very appreciated help of Volvo Model Cars group on Facebook, we ran a poll in 2019 to determine which Volvo scale model cars we should reproduce for the next year. That's how you high ranked the Volvo 164 E.
But that was not enough, because then the question of the body color was also touchy... So how can we define the right color that will please the majority of our community? That's an easy answer: we ran a second poll! The verdict was light blue metallic.
We take the opportunity to thank all the persons involved in this decision making process. You are a major actor of DNA Collectibles great success.

Do you know what 164 E stands for?

  • 1 is the serie number 100
  • 6 is for 6-cylinder
  • 4 is for 4 doors
  • E is for einspritzung which means "injection" in german

Now it's time to be technical with you... We want to show you the fantastic details of the Volvo 164 E 1-18 scale model car by DNA Collectibles.

First, let's focus on the exterior.
As explained earlier, we selected this beautiful light blue metallic color for the exterior. The light reflection on the body is just astonishing! The paint color is brilliantly magnified by the multiple chromed trims at several locations of the scale model car: around the windows and pilars, along the wings, around the wheelarch and along the side skirts.
The badges on the front, the wings and the back are also perfectly reproduced with a high degree of accuracy. Look at the precision of the "Automatic" and "Volvo 164 E" at the back of the trunck.
As our usual signature, DNA Collectibles made a point of honour to replicate high end perforated front grill, front and back lights from where you can actually see the bulbs and the fixation screws, the realistic mud guards, and the very unique to the model chromed exhaust pipe.

Then, the interior of our 1/18 scale model Volvo 164 E totally deserves your full attention.
Let's start with the cockpit, and more especially the dashboard harmoniously embellished by the great large wooden insert.
We also managed to add some interesting photo etched parts inside the car to raise the level of realism of the scale model replica. Can you see the photo etched chrome trims applied on the steering wheel to delimit the horn?
And what do you think about the very specific seat belt buckles spare part carefully applied between the two front seats? A real beauty, isn't it?

Now you have the keys and no excuse to miss this DNA Collectibles exclusivity. Bring value to your collection by owning the exquisite 1 18 scale model car Volvo 164 E. The ball is on your court.

Development of the VOLVO 164 E from 1972

Volvo 164E 1 18 scale model replica by DNA Collectibles.

Here is another look into the development process of the Volvo 164 E at 1 18 scale. One of the major difficulty we are facing when choosing the model and starting its development is definitely to make sure we reproduce the original car. This is certainly even more difficult when the subject is a classic car. Even if we can find good documentation, it happens frequently that some parts are no longer original but retrofitted modern pieces.

Thankfully we can count on our community to help us during this long process of 3D rendering and afterwards during the prototype creation. On the video below you can have a look at some of the images from our 3D engineering software.
The 3D rendering are very important in the development, as it allows us to check every single part of the model car.
While the grey prototype, which is called a Master, is made to make sure the tooling is well manufactured and that the shapes, angles, proportions are correct, the 3D images will show us the fitting of the windows, the shapes and sizes of all the photo-etched parts, which will be added only on the painted sample. The painted prototype will be ready only three months after the approval of the 3D, so we need to make sure we do no mistakes.

We are looking forward to being able to show the final version of this beautiful model car, as it will enlighten your collection with all its chrome and shiny elements.
