1. The Subaru Forester STI

With the practicality of an estate car, a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-engine, four-wheel drive, a six-speed manual gearbox, and gold brake callipers. An impressive-sounding tally of features for one estate car!

Subaru was extremely popular with the country set in the eighties and nineties, and it’s not hard to see why. It’s one of the most reliable and trustworthy estate cars around – perfect for packing your tribe of black labradors and heading to the Highlands for a spot of hunting, fishing and shooting.

As you may know, the Forester STI was only sold in the Japanese Domestic Market, but the Impreza WRX STI underpinnings and plenty of dog carrying space out back have since made it an extremely popular import to the UK.

2. The Subaru Baja

The Subaru Baja has to be one of the most popular Subaru Sports car models of all time. It is a four-door, four-wheel-drive utility coupe manufactured by Subaru between 2002 and 2006 in the United States at the Lafayette plant. This car ingeniously combines the characteristics of a traditional passenger car with the enormous load capacity of a pickup! The Subaru Baja is the infant of the Subaru ST-X concept, first presented at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2000.

Admittedly, you will have to get used to the shape of the Subaru Baja: rear pickup with large loading area, front off-road sedan. The design is based on the outback – the legacy provides the technical platform. With sweeping fenders, massive bumpers and optional additional headlights on the roof, the Baja looks like a pickup on the outside. In the interior, the crossover offers plenty of comfort with leather upholstery and air conditioning. A 2.5-litre four-cylinder boxer engine with 165 hp provides propulsion.

3. The Subaru Impreza

The fifth-generation Subaru Impreza depicts an enormous improvement over its predecessor, as it provides more interiors space, a more refined cabin and safe and stable road handling. Its appearances have also improved, with snazzy styling replacing the dated and tired interior.

Practical, capacious – with ample room for four large adults, and super-safe, The Subaru Impreza is the ideal family car;

4. SUBARU SVX

When the SVX first became available in the summer of 1992, few realised that it would become widely regarded as one of the most classic Subaru car models ever. It was certainly one of the priciest, elevating it into the bracket of some accomplished machinery and the two-door body shape led some publications to compare it to the Mazda RX-7 and the Porsche 968, but they, like most who contemplated this car, were barking up the wrong tree. The SVX should be regarded as a more modern interpretation of an expensive coupe cruiser, such as the Jaguar XJ-S and the Jensen Interceptor before that, and you might be nearer the mark. The nearest contemporary equivalent may well be something like a Renault Avantime; the Subaru SVX is a car that struggles to fit into a defined niche.

5. SUBARU XT TURBO 4WD

This futuristic-looking coupe was launched in 1985. It was sold in the US, Europe as well as in Japan under the brand name Alcyone. This fantastic car became a symbol of the eighties with its innovative asymmetrical steering wheel, digital instrument display and unforgettable pop-up headlights. Subaru’s R & D team worked hard to fit this coupe with a pretty good aerodynamic coefficient at Cx 0.29. Thanks to a powerful turbo engine, 4WD transmission and air suspension, this marvelous car was really well equipped for its time.
