Volvo Concept Coupé DNA Collectibles

Unveiled in September 2013 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Volvo Concept Coupé is based on the new platform SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) intended to be used in most of Volvo’s future models.

The Volvo Concept Coupé is the first of a series of three other concept cars, all redefining the shapes of the future production cars. As a second prototype we can find the  Concept Estate which gave birth later to the Volvo V90. This sublime car was an other inspiration for DNA Collectibles as it has been reduced 18 times to offer this beauty in its Cross Country Ocean Race version to collectors all around the world. The last prototype is the Concept XC, which later offered new design elements of the XC40 for example.

Coming back to the Concept Coupé, a four cylinders two litre petrol engine drives the front wheels. The VEA (Volvo Engine Architecture) new engine runs thanks to both turbocharger and supercharger. On the other hand, the rear wheels are driven by an electric motor! That make it a PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle).

“Think about the powerful calmness of a lion. He doesn’t have to prowl to command respect. Even lying down he shows what he is capable of” THOMAS INGENLATH

Following the great welcome of this concept car, Volvo decided to produce it under the new brand Polestar. The Polestar 1, available from 2019, is now the direct descendant from the Concept Coupé. You will see that the design hasn’t been changed, and it has kept the same philosophy than the concept.

Thomas Ingenlath is the designer of the Volvo Concept Coupé, and definitely took his inspiration from the Volvo P1800 that DNA Collectibles already reproduced.

The Volvo Concept Coupé is a must to have if your are fond of concept cars, go and check it by yourself in our store here.
