Saab 9000 aero

The famous Swedish company produced the Saab 9000 series (including the Saab 9000 Aero) between 1984 and 1998 as a foray into the executive car market right after the successes its turbocharged 99 and 900 cars, and until the 9-5 release. This car was produced in Trollhättan (Sweden) and Uusikaupunki (Finland).

Did you know that the Saab 9000 shared the same “Type four platform” design with Fiat (designed cooperatively by Giorgetto Giugiaro and Björn Envall)? Indeed you will notice strong similarities between the Saab 9000 and the Fiat Croma, the Lancia Thema, and the Alfa Romeo 164. However and because of Saab’s dedication to security, the design of the doors and front end of the car were slightly different from its Italian partners.

The Aero version only appeared in 1993 and discontinued after 1997. It was, at the time, the most powerful Saab to date upon its introduction.

Here are some characteristics about the Saab 9000 Aero:

* 168 kW (225 hp) (Automatic transmission cars were limited to 149 kW [200 hp])
* 2.3-litre B234 engine
* 342 Nm (252 lb·ft)
* Paint-matched body kit and spoiler
* Recaro-designed heated sports seats
* Sport suspensions
* 16-inch Super Aero wheels
* 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds
* Acceleration from 80 to 121 km/h (50 to 75 mph) in 7.2 seconds, which is faster than Porsche Carrera 4 or a Ferrari Testarossa!
