Saab 9-5 Sportcombi

Saab- the amazing automobile manufacturing brand from Sweden, has never ceased to amaze its customers. Its unique design and models have always been loved by the buyers who appreciate functionality with style. One such striking car was Saab 9-5 Sportcombi 2011 that added sophistication and performance to the range.

This car has been the top choice among elite buyers and people who prefer getting exclusive wagons. The original version of this car was launched back in 1997 for the upcoming year. Crediting to the significant additions the makers have made to the original design, it replaced the Saab 9000.

This car lineage continued after its second generation range was introduced on 15th September 2009. However, the production didn’t start till March of 2010. After undergoing bankruptcy, the production came to a halt.

Overview: Saab 9-5 Sportcombi 2011

The brand had redesigned their flagship for the 9-5 sedan, manufactured in 2010. However, there were only 600 Aero XWD models of the car available in the market for buyers from all over the US. These had 6-speed V-6 2.8-liter automatic transmission. They were made available for sale by the fall of 2011.

Even though they were produced under General Motors, the cars were still made available for retail under the ownership of Spyker Cars. The variant launched at Geneva Motor Show in 2011 was called “SportCombi”, the latest wagon variant.

New Features in 2011 Models

After going under Spyker Cars and GM ownership phase, the Saab 9-5 Sportcombi 2011 features a unique combination of three different brands. While the design and initial planning were done by Saab, these cars have engines and other components from GM and were retailed by Spyker.

However, Saab has contributed more to this process. The brand had added 3 different trim levels to the models. These are Turbo4 Premium, Turbo4, and Turbo6 XWD, each sporting different horsepower and multiple cylinder engines.

Inspiration Behind the Looks

The Saab 9-5 Sportcombi 2011 gets its sleek and classy looks from the brand’s Aero X concept model. The Aero X had a falling roof-line along with a rear screen that is steeply raked. It also had the iconic Saab ‘wraparound’ window.

With slight tweaks and improvements, Saab was able to create an executive sports car for all its customers. The multi-fold doors, under-floor storage, and U-rail load space style enhance the overall functioning. It also has a sealed wet storage compartment and programmable & powered tailgate.

Features:

  • Introducing Three Trim Levels
  • Turbo Engine Options
  • All-Wheel Drive & Front Wheel Drive
  • Head-up Display

More about the Exteriors

While maintaining the connection of the latest 9-5’s looks with the ancestors, the brand has successfully added a trendy twist to the Saab 9-5 Sportcombi 2011. The angular headlights and trapezoidal grille from the original model have been used in these. However, the redesigned model adds a little more flare to the overall look.

Sleek sheet metal completes the exterior of the car along with blacked-out windshield pillars. These make the sedan aspect of the car shine out, giving it a cleaner and refined look. Few other exterior features include:

  • Standard 17-inch wheels
  • 18-inch wheels Available Optionally
  • Moonroof can be added on special request
  • Bi-Xenon Adaptive Headlights Available Optionally

Details on the Interior

Similar to the exteriors, Saab 9-5 Sportcombi 2011 also has a few aspects that it has obtained from the previous versions. The driver-oriented dashboard stays constant in these as well. However, the making and materials have been improved to a great extent.

This has lead to the addition of stylish plastic trim on the dashboard; it adds a mesh-like pattern to the plain base. The instrument panel features a three-pod design and consists of a speedometer and head-up display. It displays the data onto the windshield. Few other features include:

  • 8-inch touch-screen
  • USB connector
  • Bluetooth Phone System
  • Keyless ignition
  • OnStar communications system, etc.

Sneak-peek into the Hood

As mentioned above, the car comes in two different engine configurations. One is the 300 horsepower engine with V-6 2.8-liter turbocharged. While the other has a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter engine offering 200 horsepower. Both have an adaptive suspension along with driver-selectable settings, making the driving effortless.

Few other features include:

  • FWD or front-wheel drive (four-cylinder 220-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter)
  • AWD or all-wheel drive (V6 300-hp, turbocharged 2.8-liter)
